Celebrating One Year!

Happy Anniversary to us! We made it... a whole year (+12)... :) In researching how and where to celebrate our anniversary, we knew we wanted sunshine and adventure. Take a weekend trip to Malta...and you'll get just that and more! What a FABULOUS weekend! The sunshine was plentiful, the balconies were ridiculous and we had an adventure of a lifetime! Seriously. That good.

We flew out mid-morning on Friday, smooth sailing right over the Alps. This blew my mind. They. Were. Gorgeous. Talk about starting a weekend right, right?!

Once in Malta, we immediately put on our sunglasses...it was SO nice to see the sun! We checked into our hotel and oh what a view!

We quickly went to explore the capital city, Valetta. Taking the bus, it only costs 1.50 Euro...ridic and the bus was CRAZY. So fast. I mean the door would barely shut before we were off to the next stop. Valetta is an enclosed city in which you literally walk over a moat to get into ... and its gorgeous.

I became obessed with the balconies of Valetta...a tad different than Nola, but beautiful in their own special way. We stumbled into an amazing restaurant, had a night cap at the hotel and headed to bed for an early start on Saturday.

Saturday was an adventure from start to finish. I booked us on a bike tour of Gozo, sister island of Malta, leaving out most of the details to surprise Okeefe. We headed to the ferry via taxi (Another crazy driver) and we were off to explore Gozo. Our guide picked us up at the ferry and Okeefe started to realize this was more than just a bike tour. Grabbing the bikes at the guide's (we never did catch his name, although he was from Germany) garage...mountain bikes. Okeefe's face lit up like it was Christmas morning. For the next 4 hours, we explored the northern part of Gozo.

At the end of the 4 hours, we were exhausted and a little bit in disbelief of all the gorgeous sites, overlooks, beaches, cliffs, churches, villages, etc. Good thing I booked us in for a massage on Sunday morning!

Sunday morning started with breakfast by the water and the sun. Yall, the sun. I could have stayed here all day. But we had those dang massages.

Sunday afternoon we explored the "old capitol" of Malta, Mdina. My mind was blown in Mdina. Again, another enclosed city in the center of the island. Mdina sort of overlooks the rest of the island. It was first settled in 700BC. 700BC. I can't. And is home to St. Paul's Cathedral. (St. Paul shipwrecked in Malta on his way to Rome.)

Sunday evening ended with some of the best Thai food I've had ... in our hotel. The Blue Elephant. Delish! And our hotel got VH1 music videos ... the best. of the 90s. Loved it. We LOVED Malta and plan to go back in the summer to take advantage of the water. The best Anniversary trip so far.... :)
